a body/lifetime of chronic healing

– strong content warning : suicide –

for my non-chinese speaking/reading friends, the title comes out to roughly mean, ‘a body of chronic healing’, the pronunciation for the character body (身) is very close to the pronunciation of the character 生, which can mean both life and birth depending on how it’s used. i used the phrase 生命 in my piece. it means life. i repeated in chinese this idea that the point of living is to life. it is so concisely phrased in the chinese novelist 余华 (Yu Hua’s) 《活着》that the english translation doesn’t quite do its original words justice.
